DUTIES: The Internal Auditor conducts complex fiscal compliance, operational, electronic data processing and financial audits of City departments. The Internal Auditor prepares and checks documentation and procedures in anticipation of a monthly report, semi-annual newspaper report and annual financial report in accordance with requirements and interfaces with Legislative Audits and Federal Grant Compliance Auditors providing access to files, fulfilling requests for information and leading the Finance department implementing resolution of audit points. The Internal Auditor also conducts Internal Control Risks Assessment of operations for all city departments and commissions with objective of defining specific internal control weaknesses and financial risk associated with each weakness.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in accounting or related field; two to five years of progressively responsible accounting and auditing experience; knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), auditing standards (GAAS), governmental accounting standards (GASB) and governmental accounting systems; ability to understand and apply state laws, regulations and federal compliance requirements.
